Community Calendar

Text Box: RJO makes a difference in the Rochester community. Many of our members volunteer individually, serve as mentors for the youth and are community resources. Collectively we have organized several activities which have impacted the community positively.

Making your dollar stretch with Cheryl McKeiver
Don’t know where all your money goes? Were you worried about your  finances during the holiday? This seminar provided tips and tools to help us get the most out of our money.

Caribbean  Children Workshop: A  Seminar  on  Child  Well-Being, Sponsored by the Iglesia Learning Centers
This interactive workshop explored life through the eyes of children from Caribbean immigrant families. Participants explored how the needs of these children may or may not be met by their environment, and identified simple ways in which caregivers can better meet those needs.  
Presenter: Dr. Gail Ferguson, a Jamaican born psychologist, formerly with the Children’s Institute in Rochester, NY currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Knox College in Illinois.

Annual Mothers’ Day Brunch….Honoring our mothers 
Jamaican cuisine, entertainment by the children, catering by the men. 

“Taste of Home” - an event for area college students of Caribbean heritage, in collaboration with RWIFO. The goals were to reinforce the value of making positive choices, network with area West Indian professionals and establish a social support network for West Indian students.
